PVC boards can be glued outdoors, and different properties of PVC boards need to be selected. The following are specific precautions:
1,Core conditions suitable for outdoor pasting
① Weather resistance of PVC board
Ordinary PVC board will gradually age under sunlight.
It is recommended to choose PVC sheets that are resistant to high and low temperatures, as these sheets can better resist erosion from sunlight, rain, temperature differences, and other factors.
② Selection of Adhesive
The outdoor environment needs to withstand changes in rainwater and humidity, and ordinary adhesives (such as white latex and ordinary double-sided adhesive) are prone to failure. It is necessary to use adhesives with strong water resistance and weather resistance:
Silicone structural adhesive (suitable for bonding glass, metal and other substrates with PVC, with good waterproofing and high and low temperature resistance);
Polyurethane adhesive (high bonding strength, aging resistance, suitable for PVC and concrete, wood and other substrates);
Specialized PVC sheet adhesive (such as solvent based PVC adhesive, designed for PVC material, with strong bonding but requiring attention to ventilation construction).
Avoid using acidic adhesives as they may corrode the surface of PVC boards.
③ Base treatment
Paste walls, metal frames, etc. to ensure that the surface is clean, dust-free, and flat.
If the base layer is prone to moisture (such as concrete walls), it is recommended to first carry out waterproof treatment (such as applying waterproof coating) to avoid water vapor infiltration causing the adhesive layer to peel off.
2, Construction precautions
① construction
After pasting, press the board for at least 10-15 minutes to ensure sufficient contact between the adhesive and the substrate. Wait for complete curing according to the adhesive instructions (usually 24-48 hours).
② Seam and fixation
If the PVC board has a large area, it is recommended to use screws or buckles to assist in fixing it on top of the adhesive foundation (especially in areas with strong wind), to prevent it from falling off under long-term stress.
Reserve 1-2mm expansion joints between the boards to prevent expansion and deformation caused by temperature changes.
③ Post maintenance
Rinse the surface dust and stains with clean water to prevent sharp objects from scratching the PVC board.
If the edge is found to be raised, promptly use the same type of glue to repair it and prevent moisture from seeping into the base layer.
3, Applicable scenarios and limitations
Suitable scenarios: outdoor sunshades, equipment protective covers, temporary partitions, decorative panels, etc. (non load bearing, non long-term immersion environments).
limitations:
Long term exposure to strong ultraviolet radiation, high humidity (such as near the seaside), or acidic or alkaline environments (such as near chemical factories) can shorten the lifespan (usually 3-5 years, high-quality materials can be extended to 5-8 years);
The load-bearing capacity is limited and cannot be used for structures that require weight support (such as replacing glass curtain walls for load-bearing).
