Is PVC film sheet safe for mattress furniture?

PVC film sheet is regarded as the best waterproof and strong mechanical strength packaging or protective casing for furniture products like mattresses. The base material PVC itself, in fact, proves quite stable under normal conditions of use and is therefore commonly used for the manufacture of a variety of products. However, once we are towards safety aspects in packing methods like mattresses, special care should be taken on the safety of PVC films. During the production process, however, to further their processing and stability, various chemicals such as plasticizers and stabilizers are used as additives to the PVC films. Under either a high temperature or prolonged contact, these additives may leach out or migrate on the surface of the mattress and, therefore, poses risks to human health. 

Particularly for products like mattresses, coming into direct contact with the human body during prolonged periods is of concern. The presence of harmful additives could wreak havoc on the human body while sleeping. When it becomes hot in high-temperature environments, the emission rate of the chemicals contained in the PVC film will increase, thus intensifying this risk.

Moreover, within the PVC film will exist the blowing up of mattress with an additional undesirable downside; there will be an extremely decreased air permeability which ensures comfort during sleep. Conventional design of mattresses is meant to secure the right circulation of air and avoid internal humidity, whereas they will cease the natural breathing of the cover of the mattress material. The moisture will start accumulating into the foam, increasing the aging process of this internal material of the mattress, thus diminishing the lifespan, support, and comfort of the mattress. 

Accordingly, as a trader, we advise consumers to rip off the PVC film from the surface especially for furniture products like mattresses, to attain safer comfort use.
